- New codes: 230 new codes were added, including eight new codes for the phrenic nerve stimulation system.
- Deleted codes: 49 codes were deleted.
- Revised codes: 70 codes were revised.
- Category III to Category I conversions: Several Category III codes were converted to Category I codes, including coronary fractional flow reserve (FFR) with computerized tomography (CT), and cardiac intraoperative ultrasound services (IOUS).
- E/M code changes: A minimum time requirement was introduced when using time to select a level of E/M service. E/M guidelines for time documentation now require the “must be met or exceeded” standard.
- Spanish language descriptors: More than 11,000 medical procedures and services have Spanish language descriptors added to make health care more inclusive and transparent.
- Pathology and Laboratory Section: 75 additions, 25 revisions, and 15 deletions were made, including editorial updates to molecular pathology procedures.
