can we charge for a D0140 a day after patient seen for new patient exam D0150

If these two had taken place weeks apart, I think it would be fine. Doing a comprehensive one day and a limited the next day, my question as an auditor was the extraction planned on the D0150 exam and scheduled for the next day? If so, the D0140 I would say is overcharging unless you can provide an arguement otherwise.

I agree with both answers with one additional comment. I think that a cursory exam is expected before any procedure and typically are not as involved as a D0140/D0150. In this case, I deem the exam part of the procedure. I don't ding my providers in their audit for a scenario such as this.

You can bill it with the extraction but I would only charge the the patient if they were not originally schedule for the extraction and they came in with pain, you diagnosed and realized an extraction. But if you realized at the initial visit an extraction was needed and scheduled them to come back the next day, no. Also, be mindful of the exam frequencies because some insurances limited exams share freq. with all other exams.

Depends on your office policy and whether your in or out of network provider. You can charge whatever you want. As long as it is consistent with all patients as to not discriminate. Most iin network do not allow for this
