Can a general dentist use D0180 and will insurance pay it? My answer would be NO. D0180 would be downgraded to D0150. Only Periodontist can use D0180.Is this correct?Thank you!!

According to some carriers D0180 may be used by a general dentist if the patient is considered a "perio" patient and proof of periodontal disease "medical necessity" is present. Having said that the majority will only pay D0180 when submitted by a periodontist.
